Celebrating 200 Years!

Join the most influential people. See you there!
Welcome to Monroe County KY 2020!

Monroe County is a special place, the absolute center of South Central Kentucky. We’re an hour from the Interstate, but worth the drive from anywhere. And in 2020, we’re celebrating our 200th birthday.

We have so many stories to tell. The tale of John Mulkey and the oldest freestanding log meeting house in Kentucky. The tale of John Hunt Morgan’s First Raid in Kentucky and the Battle of Tompkinsville. The tales of two hundred years of families, farmers, businesspeople, builders, artists, preachers and politicians.

Our history is a living story that we’re writing every day. We maintain strong traditions and put in countless volunteer hours helping each other out. Our crafters make fine baskets, colorful quilts, fine woodwork and more. Our chefs make scrumptious jams, jellies and baked goods. Our barbecue is legendary.

If you’re connected to Monroe you’re part of the family. Every one of us matters. So we’d like to invite you to join in our party plans. We're making arrangements to do some re-enacting, some singing, some parading, a lot of good eating and spending quality time together. So get in touch. Share a family story. Tell us what you’d like to see happen. Join one of our committees -- we want all hands on deck!

If you’ve never been here (or even heard of Monroe County, KY until just now) we’d like to extend a warm invitation to come join us for one or more of the events we've planned for 2020. You’ll find lots of wonderful things to do, good food to eat, gorgeous scenery and a warm, genuine South Kentucky welcome.
